Bio
An accountant by education and training, Tamiko earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting at Southern University Baton Rouge in 1990 and spent fifteen years as a Special Agent and Instructor/Facilitator with the Internal Revenue Service residing in Phoenix, Arizona, New Orleans, Louisiana and Chicago, Illinois before making the life-changing decision to return to Donaldsonville, Louisiana.
In 2005, intrigued with grant accounting, Tamiko took a position at her alma matter Southern University Baton Rouge as a Grant Accountant. Recognized as a high-potential leader, her career took a ten-fold leap in responsibility and she became the Director of Operational Compliance in the Comptroller’s Office. She didn’t disappoint, championing the complete overhaul of the department.
In 2007, Tamiko’s career took another leap forward when AMIkids Donaldsonville invited her to join their team. AMIkids, Inc. is known as a flagship company in the area of juvenile justice. Promoted in her four year tenure, her career culminated into the position of Executive Director and Coach Traininer with AMIkids Donaldsonville. Tamiko contributions centered on the mission of AMIkids; which is to provide the kids of Ascension, Assumption and St. James Parishes with an opportunity to transform into responsible young adults. She received several corporate awards over the years because of her tireless efforts. In 2012 she became the Executive Director and Coach Trainer of AMIkids Baton Rouge serving East Baton Rouge School Board students until she began her disability leave because of Renal Failure, Dialysis and subsequently a kidney transplant.
Tamiko’s interests include public speaking, scuba diving, swimming, dancing and spending time with her family and friends. She is the Founder and Coordinator of the Donaldsonville Mayor's and Ascension Parish Youth Advisory Councils. Tamiko is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated and the Ascension Catholic High School Board. Prior to her illness, Tamiko was a volunteer instructor with the Louisiana Capitol Area Red Cross teaching lifeguarding, swimming, CPR, First Aid, AED, and Babysitting. She is a former member Ascension Parish Council, a former member of the City of Donaldsonville’s Planning and Zoning Commission, a past President of the River Road African American Museum, a former Board Member of Donaldsonville Louisiana Marine Institute and a past President of the Louisiana Coalition of African American Breast Cancer Survivors.
Tamiko resides in Donaldsonville, Louisiana with her husband, Ira and her daughter, Lil Tamiko.
